Manayunk’s Venice Island Project

This project is going to be awesome once finished.

If you have ever walked, jogged, or biked along Manayunk’s “Tow Path” (in between the riverside shops on Main Street and the Manayunk Canal), you have probably wondered why it doesn’t look better.

Manayunk has a thriving Main Street, a huge recreational scene, and national recognition. It just makes sense to keep the waterfront area looking as nice as it can. This project is going to make it even better.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • State of the art performing arts center
  • Underground storage tank to prevent flooding along Main Street
  • Completely redone/upgraded Tow Path
  • A water garden
  • Upgraded parking area

The entire project is going to take a few years, but it will be huge for environmental health, recreational activities, and quality of life in Manayunk.

Home Prices in Manayunk & Roxborough

As an FYI, I was able to create this simple graph on Zillow to show exactly what home prices have done in Manayunk & Roxborough over the last few years.

As you can see, even though we have been in a housing slowdown, prices have not been affected as drastically as other parts of the country.

The Foodery gets real in Roxborough

That’s right. You heard me correctly.

Philadelphia’s Famous Foodery (try saying that 5 times fast) is looking to make a splash in my own neighborhood; and what a splash it would be.

Ridge Avenue in Roxborough has been going through some changes over the past few years. The main drag is about to be improved through a streetscape grant, new local businesses have been opening up, and more people are seen walking in the central business district (both day and night).

As reported by Newsworks, The Foodery is in the process of moving into the building where the Roxborough Development Corporation currently resides. It’s in the middle of Ridge Avenue, it offers plenty of space, and The Foodery may even offer beer-paring workshops.
