The Mann is getting an upgrade

In all of my years in/around Philadelphia, and with all of the concerts/outdoor events I have gone to, I have never been to The Mann.

To be honest, I’m surprised myself that I have yet to see a show there. People have given me mixed results; some good, some bad.

Aside from outside opinions, I now have a reason to go and see a show there:

  • Skyline Stage & Lawn
  • Lawn expansion
  • New video screens
  • Upgraded audio system

In other words, an already fine outdoor concert venue is about to get even finer.

Drexel continues its expansion

Right in the heart of their campus.

This project has been in the works for some time now, and has actually already broken ground). It will fill a big void on an active block (right across the street from the Drexel Book Store and Mandell Theater).

Once labeled as one of “America’s Ugliest Campuses,” the school has literally transformed an outdated, park-less, concrete area into a modern, green, world-class student town. Not only have these large investments brought in more students, but they have also encouraged lots of off-campus development by private investors to keep those students in the neighborhood.

Jim Fry has truly picked up right where the late Constantine Papadakis left off.

Reading Terminal Market is getting bigger and better!

As if this place was not awesome enough already, Reading Terminal Market is expanding what is known as their “Eastern End” into multifunctional space.

Here are some highlights of the project:

  • Additional retail space for more successful vendors.
  • A demonstration kitchen for classes and the like.
  • Event space for meetings, parties, etc.
  • Expanded and renovated restrooms.
  • A permanent, museum-esque display of the Market’s history.
  • Estimated completion date: April 2012.

The Reading Terminal Market is an enormous, diverse, urban market in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. From produce, poultry, and baked goods to cheesesteaks and Amish food, RTM has it all.
